For instance, if someone were to venture into a business, they would need to use verbal communication everyday in order to sell their products, innovate new ideas as a group and many more.
What does verbal communication consists of?
It is made up by the use of language and words
“Language is the armory of the human mind, and at once contains the trophies of its past and the weapons of its future conquests”
Samuel Taylor Colleridge

Malaysia is a malay language orientated country since long ago ,however, Datuk Seri Najib Razak does not allow malaysians to rest on their laurels just relying on the malay language . The reason for this is because the government in Malaysia knows and acknowledges the importance of acquiring another language.A recent article that shows clearly that Datuk Seri Najib Razak has not forgotten the dominance of english specifically in the country.

Moreover, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin supported Datuk Seri Najib Razak's stand that english is important even in a malay orientated country. "I understand that it is important for our children to be proficient in English to meet the needs of the job market, and I do believe that the new approach that we are taking in terms of teaching English would put us in a better position,"was what he stated in a recent speech.
In support to the two prominent figures stated earlier , the wife of Datuk Seri Najib Razak , Datin Seri Rosmah has proven to the nation that what her husband believed in was not just a lie. She told the press that she encouraged her children to pick up other languages so that they would be well and brilliantly equipped globally.
"My son, Mohd Norashman, is learning Mandarin and my daughter, Nooryana Najwa is learning Arabic in the university"
Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor

(Benefits of verbal communication)
1. people have a clear idea of your stand
this video demonstrates President Barack Obama verbally communicating , hence, make known to the audience on his stand.
2. people know your displeasure or pleasure on a certain issue
Recently, Kanye West verbally insulted Taylor Swift ( the winner of the best video in the VMA). He went up the stage and snatched the microphone and said something to the audience. Well, this shows his clear displeasure with Taylor Swift's success that night.

No doubt that verbal communication has pro and cons, however, i support the idea of verbal communication because i feel that it would be more direct in the communication process.
For instance, if a friend is unhappy with me but does not verbally question my acts , I would never get the chance to resolve the problem.
This video demonstrates Kanye West apologizing to Taylor Swift on live television verbally.Although some may argue that verbal communication has flaws, nobody can deny that the only true sincere way to make up for what has went wrong can only be done verbally. face to face communication cannot take place if there isnt any verbal commuication.
In a nutshell, I feel that everyone should equipt themselves with a good command of languages in order to construct a good , sensual and well-mannered verbal conversation or debate.

ReplyDelete"For instance, if a friend is unhappy with me but does not verbally question my acts , I would never get the chance to resolve the problem."
ReplyDeletehmm. youre right. next time i'll just tell you ok?
Yeah, I think verbal communication is very important in this era. Nowadays, speaking is part of the everyday life. You speak when you ask for something, you speak when you express your feelings & etc. Verbal communication is the best and common way of communicating.
ReplyDeleteFor example, sms is a clique nowadays to communicate, but the disadvantage of it is you never know what is the tone of the sender. Therefore this leads to misunderstandings. And that explains the importance of verbal com.
Imagine the world without verbal communication!
hello jeremy
ReplyDeletei couldnt agree more with your stand; verbal communication is really a much better way of expressing one's opinions. it's really a lot clearer in passing messages, ideas and even expressing oneself during an argument.
it is true too that a good command of whichever language one is conversing in verbal com. is v.important too. impreciseness and unclear speeches can be real troubles.
p/s: love e kanye west example. think he's angry with e whole world.
I agree with what you said, Leet Sern.
ReplyDeleteLanguage is arbitrary in everyday lives and it is the most powerful means to make our communication effective.
Verbal communication is essential in virtually all of our endeavors, from the very private to the most public. Both writing and speaking rely on the use of language.
Language is also important because it organizes and classifies reality, is abstract and shapes perceptions as well.
Thus, it is very vital for the leaders to realise how important the part of language play in lives and also how we should improve our use of language to prevent noises in communication.
Yes i do agree that verbal communication is vital in the world today. Without verbal communication, many misunderstandings may happen and may cause a lot of displeasure and problems.
ReplyDeleteI think its good that you brought up the current issue of Kanye and Taylor. It evidently shows how verbal communication is very much needed to solve an issue.
However, there is also the quote "action speaks louder than words." What is your take on that Jeremy?
Verbal communication is a way for people to communicate face-to-face and it's the basis of communication. Through verbal communication, we get to observe the other party's first hand emotions right after the talking. We can give immediate feedback to ensure the message was fully understood if they were to look puzzled. This can eliminate us from the occurrence of misunderstandings.
ReplyDeleteI always like how you linked those examples in your post. It definitely makes your post a lot more interesting.
Keep up the good work! :D
Jeremy! (okay the real comment)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your entries because you link com concepts with current issues and articles. Very interesting indeed. The Kanye West vs Taylor Swift was an appropriate example. What he did was unprofessional though it was straighfwd. Verbal communication is indeed one of the most effective ways get your point across to another party.
In a nutshell, well done! Looking fwd to your next entry alr. (:
I agree with what you mentioned about verbal communication being the best form of communication, as other channels may cause unintended misintepretation. Also, the importance of language should not be underestimated as language barriers do hinder the progress of interpersonal relationships, and without a doubt, will affect a nation's progress. I think it's commendable that the Msian PM has taken a step forward to stress on the importance of language.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as usual, great job with the interesting examples! :D
I agree that you mentioned that verbal communication can solve problems that some types of communication cant.like non verbal.how is someone going to solve a problem seriously by using those cues.
ReplyDeleteIt is true Janice, that actions speaks louder than words.but that is only from one point.that he has not apologized personally through actions.but dont you think that words is the ultimate way to solve a problem that is caused?
ReplyDeleteverbal is more important than non verbal i feel.
ReplyDeletei mean would you rather do actions or speak what u mean.
right agree?
Hey thanks.well, i think both has its functions la.like importance.
ReplyDeleteif you do sign language only people may misinterpret.and den if u use verbal people may not get the full understanding of what you tried to mean
Having said that right Chian, i think verbal has more importance, people can still do without legs and hands what.and still communicate.try not talking.its so hard!!!
ReplyDeleteJeremmzz!!
ReplyDeleteI can see that u r very pro verbal huh.heh.
like the way you posted really show how much you
think of verbal communication.
i know u since like forever and i think you talk more than you show sign languages.so good la you stuck to what I think you believe.heh
nice pointers too.chaos
